Why everyone keeps coming back.

Nestled on the tranquil shores of Dangar Island, Dangar Island Depot is a charming local cafe and general store that perfectly captures the island’s laid-back vibe. This delightful spot offers a unique blend of rustic riverine charm and modern cafe culture, making it a must-visit for both locals and visitors seeking a peaceful retreat. Located at 2 Neotsfield Ave, it provides a welcoming haven where you can indulge in quality coffee, wholesome meals, and essential provisions all under one roof.

The menu here celebrates simple, fresh ingredients with an inviting selection of breakfast and lunch options guaranteed to satisfy a variety of tastes. Start your day with their creamy, smooth flat white paired with the avocado toast topped generously with crispy bacon — a dish that many locals, including Matt White, have praised as one of the best they've encountered on the island. For those craving something heartier, the BLT and the expertly crafted beef burger offer rich, comforting flavors, while sides like tomato relish and toasted banana bread provide delightful accompaniments. Don’t miss their famed Affogato, a harmonious marriage of rich espresso and velvety vanilla ice cream, hailed by visitors for its indulgent yet balanced taste.

Dangar Island Depot’s beverage offerings deserve special mention. From refreshing daily juices and organic coconut water to tangy kombucha and soft drinks, the fridge selection caters to all thirsts. Tea lovers will appreciate the variety of brews including English Breakfast, Masala Chai, and soothing lemongrass and ginger blends. The care put into each cup is evident, enhancing the relaxed atmosphere that invites you to slow down and savor the moment.

The setting itself is nothing short of magical. Overlooking the peaceful Hawkesbury River, the indoor and outdoor seating options give guests the freedom to choose their experience — whether basking in the warm sun on a clear day or cozying up inside during cooler weather. Customer reviews consistently highlight the friendly and attentive service, with Eleanor Morris particularly commending the staff's warmth even near closing time, adding a personal touch that elevates the overall experience.

Visiting Dangar Island Depot feels like stepping into a quiet, almost secret corner of the world – a slice of paradise surrounded by nature’s calm. The journey here, via train and ferry, adds a sense of adventure and escape that primes you to fully appreciate the tranquil environment. As David Abrahams beautifully reflected, this place serves not just food but a memorable experience woven into the island’s rich history and breathtaking scenery.

Whether you're looking for a peaceful breakfast nook, a laid-back lunch spot, or a friendly store to grab refreshments while exploring the island, Dangar Island Depot stands out as an authentic and soulful destination. It invites you to slow down, indulge your senses, and create lasting memories in one of New South Wales’ most beautiful river retreats.

What a treat. Remarkable and rustic river food. The Rueben is wonderful. This everyday adventure via the train and ferry takes you here, to a quiet little corner of the universe that could very well be a version of paradise. Also called Mullet Island before being named after contraversial settler Mr Henry Dangar. To local Guringai aboriginal people it was/is reportedly used for special / sacred business.

This place is very peaceful especially on weekdays. You get a multi million dollars views combined with the best coffees as well as very nice breakfast or lunch options. I would highly recommend the Affogato (vanilla ice cream with the best coffee shot possible) as well as the beef burger. There’s both indoor and outdoor seating- so on a cold day it’s great to sit inside while waiting for the ferry

Burger was good. Expected fries instead of chips, but at least the chips came in 2 flavours. Service was a bit slow, but apparently because the bowling club was closed on the day I visited, they were busier than usual. Worth the $20+ return ticket on the ferry just to come here for lunch? Prob not, but still unexpectedly good for being only 1 of 2 eatery options on the island.

Most beautiful views!! The cookie and hot choc were fantastic, but the customer service is the best part. The server was so friendly and accommodating (even so close to closing time). Loved it, thank you

My partner & I ate at this cosy cafe twice over a weekend stay on Dangar. I had the flat white and avocado toast with bacon one morning, the flat white and BLT the next. The coffee was smooth, strong, and delicious. The avocado toast was one of the best I've had, with the BLT also being delicious. Lastly, the service was friendly both times. I would definitely eat here again if I came back to the island.

The team at Dangar Island Depot recently hosted our boat owners club event. They were very helpful in the lead up to the event, helping me choose a selection of food that could be served quickly to a group of approx 40 people. The food was exceptional, the service was friendly and efficient. The location is unique and great for boaties. I highly recommend.

Chill out and get the ferry from Brooklyn to Dangar Island, the Depot is close to the wharf and has great coffee and meals as well as being the general store for the island. Wheelchair accessible but no restrooms, the public restrooms are a short walk away near the bowling club. Enjoy a good meal at the Depot and have a relaxing walk around the island, look for the kookaburras and other birds.

Took the beautiful little ferry from Brooklyn across the Hawkesbury River to Dangar island for a spot of breakfast at the quaint cafe beside the wharf. What a picture postcard location. The owner couldn’t be be more helpful with our order and my wife said without a doubt that her smashed avo on sourdough was the best she had ever had followed by a superb mocha coffee. I on the other hand fancied an old fashioned Devonshire tea which included a lovely ceramic teapot of English Breakfast tea with a home made scone strawberry jam and proper clotted thick cream not the aerosol type that seems to be the norm lately. If you are in Brooklyn do yourself a favour take the quaint little ferry over to Dangar island and treat yourself to a breakfast or brunch at the cafe you won’t regret it.
